Ustadh Nouman offers advice from Surah Al-Mujadila on how we can protect ourselves from secret conversations motivated by Shaytan. Allah tells us that when we seek private counsel, to be mindful and have taqwa, and to avoid backbiting and negative assumptions.

You who believe, when you converse in secret, do not do so in a way that is sinful, hostile, and disobedient to the Messenger, but in a way that is good and mindful [of God]. Be mindful of God, to whom you will all be gathered.

Surely, the secret conversation is the work of Shaytan, designed to cause sadness to the believers, though it cannot harm them in the least unless Allah permits it. Let the believers put their trust in God. [Surah Al-Mujadila, 58:9-10]
