Sheikh Abdul Rahman Ibn Abdul Aziz al-Sudais is one of the most prominent Islamic scholars and imams in the Muslim world, particularly known for his role as the Imam and Khatib (preacher) of the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Born in 1960 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Sudais is renowned for his powerful and emotional recitations of the Quran, which have captivated millions of listeners worldwide. His voice and unique style of recitation have become widely recognized, making him one of the most celebrated Quranic reciters of our time. Sheikh Sudais began memorizing the Quran at a young age and completed his memorization by the age of 12. He pursued his education in Islamic studies, graduating from the College of Sharia at Riyadh University, later completing a Master's in Islamic Fundamentals from Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University, and eventually earning a Ph.D. in Islamic Sharia from Umm al-Qura University in Mecca. In 1984, Sheikh Sudais was appointed as an imam of Masjid al-Haram, where he quickly became known for his emotionally resonant recitations, especially during the Taraweeh prayers in Ramadan. His sermons often emphasize the importance of compassion, unity among Muslims, adherence to Islamic principles, and moderation. Over the years, he has also taken a strong stance against extremism and has promoted messages of tolerance, peace, and understanding. Beyond his role as an imam, Sheikh Sudais was appointed as the President of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, which gives him a significant administrative role overseeing the management and affairs of both the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina. In this capacity, he has been involved in numerous initiatives aimed at improving the experience of pilgrims and enhancing the facilities of the holy mosques. Sheikh Sudais remains an influential figure, inspiring Muslims globally through his recitations, sermons, and efforts to promote Islamic values in a changing world.
